World Music Lab 🐸 SONGSTRESS HEROINES
Some artists we are collaborating with and available live in concert with a new album!
🌟 Hello!
Last week, I traveled to Marseille to take part in BabelmusicXP, a showcase festival and networking conference with a focus on world, global, roots, and traditional music, particularly from the Mediterranean. It’s always a pleasure to be part of this event. I’ve been attending since the very beginning when it was first launched in the early 2000s.
While there, I had the chance to meet people who, surprisingly, follow my posts and read my articles. Some of them know that I also coach artists and suggested that I should talk more about them—why I chose to work with them and what we do together. I’m willing to give it a try.
To start, I want to introduce my "songstress heroines." I’m not sure if that’s the perfect label for them, but I like it. These are singer-songwriters with a message, a creative vision that intrigues me. Their music speaks louder than I ever could about their artistry and universe. And if they caught my attention, I believe they might capture the interest of others as well.
I look forward to your feedback.
Eric

Namritha Nori's music embodies the intricate layers of a diverse heritage, blending the melodies of the Mediterranean, the rhythms of the Middle East, and the spirit of India. Each song Namritha creates is like a doll within a doll, revealing deeper connections and more profound emotions as one delves further into her work.

✅ Roberta Gulisano (IT/UK)
LaGulisano, a Sicilian singer-songwriter, brings a fiery and poetic energy to the stage. From an early age she immersed herself in island’s folk traditions, whilst listening to the Italian popular greats and delving into the world of jazz. By instinct, her music is passionate, politically charged and deeply personal. Her lyrics speak of resistance and transformation. Her newest release A Ccu Aparteni (2024) encapsulates this spirit, offering a compelling mix of vibrant melodies, from desert laments, folktronic ballads, wedding jigs and psychedelic folk futurism. The album makes Roberta an artist whose voice is not only heard but truly felt.

✅ Fil Rouge Quintet (IT)
Born from a deep artistic bond between pianist-composer Manuela Iori and singer-songwriter Maria Teresa Leonetti, Fil Rouge Quintet is more than just a musical project—it’s an unfolding story, a whispered secret between poetry and melody.
Their sound defies simple classification, weaving together Italian creativity, French elegance, the free spirit of jazz, and echoes of Africa and the Mediterranean. But beyond the music, there’s something intangible—a hidden thread connecting these two visionary artists and their fellow musicians, an invisible yet undeniable force that brings their world to life. Go listen to their last opus, L’Ile Noire (2024).
